Currently awaiting birth certificates for:
- Annie Harris - Q2 1878 volume 1c pg495 Mile End Old Town, London, Middlesex
- William Halverson - Q4 1849 volume 12 pg203 Romford Essex
- Edward Blackley - Q2 1840 volume 5 pg120 Dover, Kent
These should assist with the research questions:
- Who is Annie Harris?
If correct this certificate would shed more light on whether she is really the daughter of William and Charlotte.
- Who is Will Halverson?
Understanding Will’s relation to the Harris family and particularly Caroline Hannah Harris will assist in understanding Joseph and Hannah Harris’s family that first appears in the 1841 Census. Equally, it should help to explain the relationship between Henry and Will Halverson, whom it would seem are brothers, as well as Will’s relationship (and therefore the Harris family relationship) to The Fleeger family of Forest Gate Farm (1851 Census).
- Who is Frederick Blackley?
There happens to be few Edward Blackley’s born in 1840. This birth certificate if correct should confirm whether Edward’s father was called Frederick and the name of his mother.

Answers to research questions (8/10/2009):
- Who is Annie Harris? - Incorrect Birth certificate
The Annie Harris Birth certificate proved to be incorrect. The certificate stated a Myer Harris as the father and Rosetta Stibbe as the mother.
- Who is Will Halverson? Correct Birth certificate, further investigation needed
Will was the son of Caroline Hannah Harris and Henry Halverson and confirms Will and Henry as brothers. As Henry is stated as nephew to Allan Fleeger Will must also be a nephew too. However, the relationship between Caroline Hannah Harris and/or Henry Halverson (snr) requires further investigation. Caroline was married to Henry in 1847 at Shoreditch. On the Marriage certificate Joseph Harris (Caroline’s father) is described as a ‘Grocer’. Further investigation is needed to confirm the connection between Caroline and Joseph, as well as what happened to Henry (snr), Henry (jnr) and Will. Caroline died in 1850.
- Who is Frederick Blackley? Correct Birth certificate, further investigation needed
The Birth certificate confirms that a ‘John Edward Blackley’ was born to John Blackley (a Baker) and Mary Blackley (nee Clark) 24th March 1840, in St Mary’s Parish, Dover, Kent. This confirms the 1841 Census return, however, doesn’t clear-up the question regarding the use of Frederick as Edward’s father in his Marriage certificate. It is likely that the birth certificate for the other Blackley child born in 1840 around Hampshire will need to be obtained. This male child had a father called ‘Frederick Blackley’.
